Solid RW conditioner unit based on high penetrating grouts

The unit is intended for grouting finely dispersed radioactive waste (ash residue from RW incineration process) through impregnation with high penetrating grouts. The SRW refilling, batching and grading stages are eliminated. The amount of the end compound is not greater that the initial bulk SRW amount.

Essentially, the following technology is used: A 100-liter drum with a PROBE filled with finely dispersed SRW is fed into the work station and the grout feed pipeline is connected to the probe in the drum. A high penetrating grout is prepared in the mixer and pumped into the near-bottom drum portion. The impregnation is continued until the drum is filled up with the grout.

 LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT

The impregnation technique and the respective device are protected by the Russian Federation Patent No. 2142657 C1, priority 03.09.98, and the Russian Federation Patent No. 2199164 C2, priority 18.04.01.
The unit is a part of License No. GN-07-303-0770, dated 21.03.2002, issued to RADON for the handling of radioactive waste during processing. The unit has been in operation since 2003.
An ash residue grouting unit (protected by Invention Patent No. 2301468 “Device for impregnation grouting of radioactive and toxic waste”) was developed for the Smolensk NPP in 2004 jointly with SverdNIIkhimmash based on the experience of operating the SRW conditioner unit.
The conditioner can be used as the station for conditioning finely dispersed SRW, including ash residue from SRW incineration facilities.
