BOX FOR SORTING AND SEGMENTATION OF SOLID LOW AND INTERMEDIATE LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTE

The unit is intended for implementation of sorting and fragmenting of solid low and intermediate level radioactive waste for the purpose of after-treatment by incineration, compacting.

Sorting is radwaste separation according to treatment methods (incineration, compacting, fragmenting).

Fragmenting is solid radwaste (SRW) downsizing in order to get fragments with their sizes suitable for after-treatment.

SRW with the following specific activity are subject to sorting and fragmenting:

- for α-active substances – 2.2E+5 Bq/kg;

- for β-active substances – 3.7E+6 Bq/kg.

After treatment by sorting and fragmenting we get radwaste packages subject to incineration, compacting and conditioning.

WORKUP LEVEL

Box for SRW sorting and fragmenting is operated at FSUE Radon since 2008. SRW fragmenting and RW packages compiling technologies have been worked through by the enterprise specialists. Also they have improved complex radwaste sorting methods and large-size SRW fragmenting technologies. Units and systems for RW sorting and fragmenting are necessary to have in places where radioactive wastes are generated or accumulated.

FSUE Radon has great experience, highly skilled specialists and adequate manufacturing capabilities for development of technologies, design and production of installations and systems for RW treatment by sorting and fragmenting methods.
